JoyOfPainting Part2 Episode 4

October 19, 2006

…with your happy little host, Dennis Jones…

…finished base art…

To recap yesterdays exciting episode; …I emailed my client pencil roughs for approval. Before I can go to finished artwork, the client must first o.k. a sketch. If there is any kind of problem, this is where they get to slam on the brakes. My idea is a fairly different take on their original art request.

I receive the green light to proceed, they love the new direction. The only change is the wording on the balloon. Instead of “Hoo Hoo” they wanted “Whoo Hoo”. I did not know that was the correct spelling for that. You learn something new every day.

I start painting. My game plan is to paint all the main elements in with gouache and then add the background in Photoshop. Since this is my own little Rube Goldberg tribute, I decide to paint it all in muted tones, mainly grays and browns to achieve an old time look.

I am done with the painting phase and scanning the art when I hear the email bell fire off on my computer. It is my client. The email reads… “by the way, make sure this poster is very, very colorful.” This presents just a bit of a problem since I am already done painting everything.

Welllll… (does anyone remember those old Chicken Man Radio Shows where the announcer says that at the end)?… no? …well, anyway… will I be able to pull a rabbit out of my hat?… gerARRRrrr… (Rocky & Bullwinkle)… or will it be back to the drawing board for a second try at this? Tune in tomorrow for the final exciting episode of …The Joy Of Painting!

…Doug, didn’t you say you were having your wisdom teeth removed this week? …next week? …sometime in the near future? …I think Don is in Texas right now…

Doug Jones

I had them out yesterday and have been sitting around with ice packs on my face for two days. It’s a thrill a minute! What’s Don in Texas for?

Dennis Jones

…arrggg… I suspect at your age you had some pretty long roots to pull out… good luck with all that… Don and Keegan are apartment shoppin’ I believe…

Doug Jones

As the doc told me, a 15 year old bounces back in no time… one of my advanced age takes 3 times as long to heal… been eatin’ pudding for 2 days now…

Dennis Jones

…I had my wisdom teeth pulled a few years back and have not been able to make wise decisions from that point on… coincidence? …I fear not…

Ol’ Rube would be proud. Love the pattern on that guys pants. Hope there is a larger version in the end so we can see all your details.
