New Photoshop Brush

October 1, 2007

BillyCower

I was piddling around on the computer this weekend and decided to learn how to build a custom Photoshop brush. I was very proud of myself for learning how to do this… then a little less proud when I discovered how easy it was… then not too proud at all when I forgot to save it and threw it away accidentally… but I did paint this little picture with it before it disappeared forever.

I’ll never forget that little Photoshop brush… it was a true and loyal friend… while it survived…

Don Jones

I never got to try that little Photoshop brush, but I bet it was a good little work horse. Coach Cower needs to trade his NBC desk job for a Chiefs sideline gig. Phlegm win big this week even with the LIONS defense.

Doug Jones

I keep thinking I need to try to make a PS brush… but just never get around to figuring it out. But if YOU can do it… there is hope for all of us

Don Jones

Do you bang your mouse back and forth on the desk like Bob Ross cleaning his brush?

Dennis Jones

…well, that made me laugh out loud…

Don Jones

I still enjoy a good Bob Ross paintin’ show. Especially when he loads up that fan brush with a touch of blue and lots of magic white and proceeds to create a wonderful little waterfall in his world.

Doug Jones

Yeah… that made me laugh too… in my world… all the happy little trees are deformed. They still play Bob’s program here. Love the Afro. You might want to check out the Bob Ross Cult

Don Jones

Dennis Jones

…well, since it’s apparently Bob Ross Day on my page, a little something from the archives…

Don Jones

A true, best of Brother Jones ArKival Klassic.

Jason Bourne

Bob Ross paints mice? Who knew? Incase you’re reading Bob, would you paint Bespin or Kamino. It would be awesome.

Andy

No mistakes here, just happy accidents. Words of wisdom from Bob Ross and my mom…

Dennis Jones

…my mom never thought my accidents were all that happy when I was a kid… of course, my accidents usually involved a broken or severed limb or two…

Andy

I thought it was unwavering motherly encouragement until I was in a therapy session around age 23… when I realized she was referring to me. Maybe I’ve shared too much.

kelly

hello. I have been checking in off and on for the past coupla years. Big fan of you all. Dennis, I had an interesting thing happen while reading the “See with Me Bible” with my daughter last night…a few weeks ago she learned about Jonah, she’s almost 4, while she relayed the story from Sunday school, she kept referring to Jonah as “She” – I then explained to her that Jonah was a boy. She got very agitated and explained to me that Boys don’t wear yellow dresses with purple. I later saw in the story book the class used that he indeed had a yellow robe and purple sandals and sash…back to last night, as I read the story I was surprised to see, even in the Dennis Jones version Jonah sports yellow and purple, luckily there was no questions of whether he was a boy or girl, I plan to research today to see if Jonah’s choice of wardrobe is mentioned in the Bible…just thought it as interesting.

Dennis Jones

Hi Kelly …I don’t think there’s anything about what color robe Jonah wears in the Bible… probably most everyone was wearing some shade of brown in those days, (except for the very wealthy)… of course, a full color Bible full of brown is not all that exciting… in a picture Bible with tons of different characters, you have to make them look different in some way, so you put one in yellow and call him Jonah… you put one in green and call him Peter… I was just using color to differentiate different characters… it was fun to hear the story about you daughter…

Doug Jones

I personally think Jonah wore a robe with polka dots…

Dennis Jones

…I’m pretty sure his robe was kinda polka-dotted after being half digested by Big Fish gastric juices…

Roballoo

Your P-shop paintin’ skils r da bomb. Love that treatment of the area under the brim of the hat –

Dennis Jones

Roballoo

Yikes!

Just changing the picture that had been up all week. Another old sketch of mine with a new coat of paint over part of it…

Dennis Jones

…ok …well now …I just poured scalding hot coffee right down the front of my shirt and all over my drawing table… I have a feeling this is going to be one great Friday!

Doug Jones

That how I start EVERY day… it really wakes you up!

Don Jones

You might wanna call your lawyer. This cup of coffee came out of Karen’s Kitchen didn’t it? She should have a warning or something on those mugs of HOT lava.

Dennis Jones

…I have a cartoon on the refrigerator that I cut out of the paper of a guy standing on his bathroom scales saying, “honey, I’ve gained another two pounds… who do we need to sue?”

Don Jones

funny stuff… Hold down the fort, I’m off to Silver Dollar!

Doug Jones

so what is your proceedure on these? Do you scan your sketchbook page as a jpeg? Then do you add a layer over it to paint on? huh… huh… ?

Dennis Jones

…the last couple of things I’ve posted have just been little 30-40 minute experiments which didn’t go totally bad for once… I’ve been doing all kinds of stuff lately trying to figure out the computer painting deal… a zillions layers, masks, all kinds of complicated stuff… I had pretty much strangled any fun there ever was in it for me out of the process… so…

..on these last two I just opened a scanned pencil drawing in Photoshop and started painting directly on top of it… who cares if you lose the pencil… one layer and go for it… it is really fun to do it this way…

Roballoo

Keep the fun! By all means keep the fun!

Jason Bourne

Wish I had a suit like that.

Roballoo

Yeah, but what kind of tie do you wear with a suit like that?

Jason Bourne

Maybe one with rivets.

Roballoo

Hmmm… that might make an interesting tie. I’ll have to consider that  idea some more.

Jason Bourne

I would also like shoes made the same way. Get the whole Tin man thing going.

Back From LA

LAgpsLaStreet

Brother Dennis, reporting back in for duty. I’ve been in Los Angeles since last Thursday. While there, we used one of those global positioning satellite (GPS) dealies. What amazing little gadgets those are! We drove all over LA with no problem.

The Comments

Don Jones

Den, you are living on the edge – visiting L.A. and all. Glad to hear the GPS got your navigation all in order. But the question at hand is… did you see any stars?

Dennis Jones

…Los Angeles is truly a strange and mysterious place… a bountiful land full of fruits and nuts… I did my best to fit in…

Jason Bourne

Cool. LA LA Land. I need to get the GPS thing too.

Doug Jones

A friend visited me recently with one of them gizmos in his car. You can choose what voice you want to listen to. His choice was the British girl. It was fun to have British girl tell you when to turn and what road to take. Spiffing!

Roballoo

Ah, if only you had made it up to the northern part of my fair state, we could have gotten together, and done something other than wearing strange hats. After looking at this strange photo, I’m left wondering, did you join some strange cult while you were down there?

Roballoo

So that’s what happened to my portfolio!

Jason Bourne

It would be awesome if the GPS had famous voices like C-P30, Darth Vader or Chuck Norris…

Chiefs Numero Uno!

October 22, 2007

GoChiefsI would have never thought it a month ago, but our very own, home state, Kansas City Chiefs are NUMBER ONE in the Western Division of the National Tackle Football League! I’m not sure how long this will last, so I say celebrate now!

The Comments

Jason Bourne

Congrats KC. My team, Cowboys, are #1 in the NFC. Yeehaww. Im looking forward to the Colts vs Patriots game. GO COLTS…

Don Jones

Even though it was a low scoring affair yesterday, the Chiefs vs. Raiders was pretty entertaining. I enjoy the camera pans into the “black hole.”

Dennis Jones

…I didn’t get to see the game… how did Priest Holmes look?

Don Jones

He was in there for about 3 or 4 plays. Just not enough action for me to get a clear picture of his status.

Dennis Jones

…did you see the highlight of Randy Moss catching the pass with his shoulder? …very impressive…

Doug Jones

Titans couldn’t get into the end zone… but Rob Bironas fired in 8 field goals. Whoever had him on their fantasy football team really hit the jackpot last week.

Dennis Jones

…since the Colts played on Monday night this week, they showed the Titans game here on Sunday… Bironas has a pretty interesting story…

Jason Bourne

I really don’t like the new rule against spiking the ball… Its going too far. What next?

Roballoo

Oh, I guess it’s time for Football season isn’t it. Go Niners!

Don Jones

Since you didn’t ask, I will go ahead and give the AWFFL status… PHLEGM WIN! But, we did take a major hit with the Numero Uno RB Ronnie Brown tearing his ACL. Loser. He still has one good leg to run on.

Roballoo

How many responses do we have to get before we get a new blog entry? At least 10 by my count.

Jason Bourne

Here is 11. I can’t believe it will be November. Where does the time go?

Dan In Real Life

October 30, 2007

DanInRealLife

I come from a fairly large family, (six brothers and sisters) and when we all go home to see each other it’s always an interesting event. If you want to know what it looks like when all the Jones brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and grand-kids get together for a holiday, go see the movie, “Dan In Real Life”. It’s a neat little movie and I left feeling like I had just attended a Jones Family Christmas.

The music in the movie was so good, Karen and I immediately went across the street to Walmart when it was over and bought the movie soundtrack. The music is all done by Sondre Lerche. I had never heard of him. He looks like he’s just a kid, (I think he’s from Norway or something). Try downloading his song “To Be Surprised” to get a feel for the music. I think I will have it playing in the background at the next Jones Family Hoo Ha.

The Comments

Doug Jones

Hey… I’ve been curious about this move… thanks for the thumbs up recommendation I also have to see Bee Movie. I saw Seinfeld on a little commercial for the show singing the song from Super Chicken and now I can’t get it out of my head…

Dennis Jones

…there was a trailer for the Bee Movie at Dan In Real Life and the dialogue sounded pretty clever….

Jason Bourne

I might see Bee Movie too. I really want to see Dr.Suess’ Horton Hears a Who. Thats going to be sooo awesome.

Don Jones

Do you journey up to Fort Wayne to attend movies?

Dennis Jones

…we did on this one…

Don Jones

Speaking of new music, after reading in the USA Today that The Eagles had a new CD out today … available only at Wal-Marts… I navigated over and picked it up. 20 Tracks… at least it has quantity.

Doug Jones

If you want good music, just go HERE and listen to the theme song.

Jason Bourne

Super Chicken, ahh, thats funny. Also try Muppet Matrix. If you want to burn some calories.

Doug Jones

Hey, we went to the movie yesterday afternoon. See what incredible influence you have! It was really good. So was the music. Didn’t go to Wally world for the soundtrack, but I do have a desire for some burned pancakes…

Dennis Jones

…doesn’t it kinda seem like you spent the weekend with those folks?

Doug Jones

Yeah… we need a big house in Mtn. Grove that is near the ocean. We could add some football to the game playing and also some brother punching. That would be fun.

Dennis Jones

…I noticed they substituted the dupe bridge game for some sort of crossword puzzle competition…

Doug Jones

yeah… that would make my brain swell. Marla could lead the morning exercise class…

Dennis Jones

…and I could watch from the back porch!

Doug Jones

I’ll be sleeping in with the washing machine…

Dennis Jones

…it would be nice to work Don into a little of that singing around the piano making fun of people we know kinda thing this year…

Doug Jones

this is a good set up, Den… roll out your punchline now…

Dennis Jones

…ok… there ya go… how’d ya like that?

Doug Jones

hmmm…. seemed like a good time to mention the bobbing for French Fries…

Don Jones

pretend this is being sung… “How ‘bout Uncle Melvin, hitched around by his thumb, Checkin’ out the Okie chicks, Good golly bum!”

Dennis Jones

…oh …yep, Doug, I see what you mean… that would have been much better than the disappearing magic trick I performed… it’s hard to interpret what’s actually being said on these comments sometimes… well… most of the time…

Doug Jones

bobbing for fries is one of our signature comedy schticks

Dennis Jones

…I know… it’s about the only good thing we have left… and I fumbled it all away… oh, the humanity of it all…

Don Jones

How was trick or treating in your neighborhood? Our neighbors were up to their old shenanigans… passing out meth to the little tricksters.

Dennis Jones

…we’ve lived out here for 7 or 8 years (more or less) and we have never had a trickertreater come to our door… ever… of course, we do always turn off all the house lights and play the scary Phantom Of The Opera song with loudspeakers from the front porch, but I don’t think that has anything to do with it…

Doug Jones

I had the porch light on and stood in the door a couple of times and watched as trickortreaters walked down the street and stopped at other houses but passed mine by. Not many visitors at all… I have LOTS of chocolate left over…

Dennis Jones

…we haven’t even bought Halloween candy in several years… and I’m pretty upset about that because I always got to eat it all…
