I seem to be falling into an “only draw the Colts” rut… but I don’t have a problem with that since it has been scientifically proven that they are the best team in the league without question… ever. I still can’t believe Peyton won a Super Bowl last year and his little brother Eli won it the next… what a story.

The Comments

Don Jones

best team ever … except for the ‘69 Chiefs. This guy has some major ‘ceps. woah.

Dennis Jones

…no, I’m sorry Don… a team of renowned football scientists who are much, much smarter than us have reached a consensus on this subject and determined the Colts to be the best team ever… who are we to question their conclusions on this subject? …we must simply accept what they say and act on it as fact…

Don Jones

That is merely “the Man” trying to keep us in our place. We must rise up and with one voice and declare that all Hoosiers and Hicks are football lovers too!

Dennis Jones

…Don… how dare you call into question the consensus opinion of football scientists… every single one in the whole world agrees that the Colts are the best team ever, so it must be true… I believe I even saw something about this on the NFL Channel… if it’s on TV it has to be true…

jeff

on the other hand, the Dallas Plowboys, in double blind testing were the only team to choke on a sack of mini marshmallows..

Dennis Jones

…hmm …well, ok Jeff, I guess you cannot argue with the scientificness of the double blind test…

Doug Jones

Colts?… Colts?… that sounds like it should be a team from Kentucky- horse country. The name SHOULD be the Indy Hoosiers. Then you could go to games and yell… “Hoosier Daddy?”

Jason Bourne

I love to draw football players. Can’t wait for the new season!

Jon Slone

The colts are the greatest! The way football should be played. Best coach! Best wide receivers! And lets not forget……the coolest nnames! Peyton, marvin, Dallas and Fern Blanston! Nobody wraps a bum toe or fills a cup like Fern!

Dennis Jones

Don Jones

If Al says it… then it is so. Just remember, he invented the internets.

Dennis Jones

…now yer thinkin’ right…

How long has this primary voting season been going on anyway? Indiana doesn’t vote until May. Doesn’t anybody want to know what us Hoosiers think about this deal? I not sure there will be anyone left to vote for by then. Lucky for me I’ll still be able to do a write in vote for my candidate… Socmo.

The Comments

Don Jones

This makes me feel like a true American. At the drop of the hanging chad, let the vote countin’ begin …

Doug Jones

I think that donkey has been listening to Hillary… he looks fried!

Don Jones

I had a strawberry/banana smoothie this past Friday … I noticed it came with a rather large straw but thought nothing more of it. I took a big, massive draw on the straw only to be immediately thrown into a painful, “brain-freeze” cranium lock-up. Demo Donk above, knows the feeling.

Jason Bourne

Wow! That is really cool. The flag is vibrant! The elephant looks a little worried.

jeff

Socmo in 2008 has a nice ring to it.. I have a $5.00 campaign contribution and 1 gallon of fabric softener where do I send it??

Dennis Jones

…I believe my brother Doug is Socmo’s official campaign manager… More on the Socmo bandwagon HERE!

ahead in the polls!

Well, I received a surprise birthday dinner yesterday. I walked into the kitchen to find that my underdog candidate, SocMo, was taking Iowa by storm! Since my birthday was the same day as the Iowa caucus, that became the theme for my birthday this year.

As you can see, we had a SocMo cake! An excellent chocolate mint cake is under that special SocMo icing. We had delicious CORN chowder soup with outstanding CORNbread that would make those Iowans weep.

An outstanding day for me… and for our next president of the United States… SocMo!

The Comments

Dennis Jones

…a grassroots movement seems to be forming!

Don Jones

This is fantastic. SocMo icing, Moon Pies… you could’nt ask for anything more Douger. (Except for someone to help you get your pajamas on…)

Roballoo

Douger – an adjective. Hmmm. Will this be the word of the year at the close of 2008?

Don Jones

But the big question I have for SocMo… Does he support change? (A simple setup for some witty comments.)

Dennis Jones

…Doug, are you feeling left out because you didn’t get a new sketchbook for Christmas like Don and I did? …is that why you are boycotting putting comments on your Brother Jones page?…is it? huh? …is it??

Don Jones

Den, maybe we should go together and send Douger a belated b-present… I’ll round up some used copier paper out of the trash and staple it together for a sketchbook … you send him some chewed up golf pencils from Pete’s golf bag.

Dennis Jones

…done and done!

Doug Jones

I am underwhelmed by your thoughfulness! But I have LOTS of sketchbooks that need drawings. I’ll try to get something up here soon…
hang on….

Yesterday was Super Duper Tuesday… so today is going to be Super Duper Man day… all a part of a super duper week, I suppose…

The Comments

Doug Jones

so are you happy that you can make bright blues and reds now?

Otto Meza

Yes… how you do thats

Jason Bourne

Nice shading. We need the rest of the Justice League also…

Dennis Jones

…I am happy that I can make really bright colors now… I love painting with the ole sticks, hair n mud, but I could never achieve the brilliant intensity of color with traditional media that I can with a computer… now it’s a matter of trying to keep it all under control… which is not always easy…

Roballoo

It’s been great to see your progress in the realm of digital media! You’ve come a long way, and your confidence shows. You’ve definitely captured the bright comic book colors of ol’ Supes here. He really stands out form the city-gray background. Is it my imagination or does he needs a shave?

Roballoo

Weird – not sure how I did they smaller, indented type effect above.

Don Jones

Stayed mentally prepared Denny Gene, ‘cause when these bright, colorful digital images get converted to the old, limited CMYK color spectrum for printing… well, let’s just say they’ll never look the same.

WeaselBoy

…hey, good to see you hangin’ your shingle out on this page today, Don…

the Phlegminator

nothing beats an ibuprofren & Aleve cocktail.

Doug Jones

Was in a bookstore today looking at the Art of Bee Movie. As I was looking at lots of cool character sketches I started noticing the medium used on them. There was a variety of looks to them, but just about every one was listed as “pencil and photoshop” … so you are in good company…

craig schutt

It’s super, man. I second the request for more Justice Leaguers…

Pencil ‘n Photoshop

Not much to say here… just another one of my scribbles. When I initially drew this I lost interest in trying to pencil the entire creature out, so I punted and moved on to another subject. Later, I was looking thru my sketchbook and decided this guy had an interesting face, so I worked it up…

The Comments

Don Jones

What size of tablet are you using, Den? I really think you’ve got this digital deal down.

Dennis Jones

…Wacom Tablet? …a 6X8 Intuos…

Roballoo

I agree with Don – have you shown any of this stuff to any clients or done any jobs in digital yet? I think you are ready to tackle one. This reminds me of a student art show in college. He had the ginormous realistically rendered canvases of city scenes with people in them and somewhere there would be a tiny section that was unfinished where you could see the underlying pencils sketching he had done on the blank canvas.

Dennis Jones

…yup …I think it’s really interesting to see what’s underneath the paint…

Man, I don’t know if it’s AlGore’s global warming or what, but the horseflies up here this season are just huge… and biters to boot…

The Comments

Jason Bourne

Swanky! He drank too much coffee.

Doug Jones

Love them stains on your knee… I usually wear mine on my shirt so folks can see them better… Awesome critter… I want to come see your zoo whenever it opens… And congrats to Don for trash talking the Patriots for a solid two weeks! woo…

Dennis Jones

…I’m trying harder to look like a professional so I made sure today I found a shirt with coffee stains on it that matched my pants…

…I guess Don really, REALLY doesn’t like them patriots… (small “p” on patriots for added insult to them) …I’ve been trying to make up for his lack of posts by posting every single day here… I’ll post anything… all I need is a picture and a sentence and I’m good to go… next week I’m going to post my current favorite snack foods…

Weird Al

March 10, 2008

044Annie

I was listening to I-Tunes on random mode the other day and a Weird Al song fired up called “The Saga Begins”. It’s a parody of Don McClean’s song, “American Pie”…

…a long, long time ago… in a galaxy far away… Naboo was under an attack”…

It’s really pretty amazing how he retells Star Wars (movie one) in it’s entirety during the course of this song, and the music is much punchier than the original, too. Here’s my interpretation of Anakin in honor of the amazing Weird Al Yankovic… and here’s also to hoping my two sons don’t read this and make fun of me for the next 3 years about it…

The Comments

Don Jones

We share the same fear of our sons terrorizing and teasing us for our quarky, eccentric, sad little lifestyles. So be it

Jason Bourne

That is funny. And UHF is one the best movies ever made!

Doug Jones

looks like you have some custom brushes going on here… right?

Dennis Jones

…naw, these are just photoshop charcoal brushes…

Space Suit

March 11, 2008

045spaceguy

I was coloring this sketch and started to erase the other guy on the page, but then just decided to make him the space suit…

The Comments

Doug Jones

you are a master recycler. Why toss away those pencil lines if you can reuse them…

Don Jones

Brother Jones goes GREEN! You tree huggers you pencil lead preservers you recycling pixel processors. those digital flesh tones are identical to your gouache pallet.

Dennis Jones

…I kinda struggled along there for a while with trying to come up with a system for painting, then it hit me… paint digitally exactly the way you paint traditionally… when I started doing that, several more pieces to the puzzle fell into place… not all, but more…

Jason Bourne

Neato! He reminds me of Robocop.

One of the nicest things about this digital painting stuff is how fast you can crank a color picture out. I had a little bit of time before I headed to church last night and knocked this study out in just under an hour.

The Comments

Doug Jones

is this guy Van Gogh’s brother?

Dennis Jones

…ha …that little sketch is only an inch or two high and I never meant it to be anything more than an experiment, but these things take on a life of their own… (and Brother Jones posting standards are pretty low these days) …he is either Van Gogh’s copycat brother or that cat Peter took a swipe at with a sword…

Jason Bourne

Swizanky! A tough guy who refuses to take “No” for an answer…

Doug Jones

a couple of technical questions… >what dpi are you working in? >are you coloring in RGB mode?

WeaselBoy

…300 dpi …yes, rgb mode …I tried working in cmyk, but you never know what color you’re going to end up with when you do that… I just switch out of rgb at the end and then pump things back up a with hue/saturation and levels… if it’s for print, that is…

Dennis Jones

…woa …Weaselboy jumped in there and answered that one for me…

Doug Jones

you should just turn over the page to Weaselboy… he has all the answers it seems… you can just go out back and do some much needed sun bathing…

Don Jones

This guy really creeps me out. His eyes… or lack of vision or something.

Hey Dennis, Do a picture of a guy on a set of drums. Huge set! Or better, homemade drums.

Doug Jones

yeah, Dennis, a huge drum set plus lots of lions and tigers… and someone on a unicycle…

Jason Bourne

And do someone getting eaten by a hamberger.
