Indiana did not have a professional football team for a lot of years and folks around here adopted the Chicago teams as their own, so when fall roles around and the NFL kicks into gear each year, loyalties are equally split between the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts… (which made that Superbowl the Colts won a few years ago against the Bears pretty interesting in this part of the country).

You can see the video for this here.

Bernard

Wow! Dennis, you are the J.C. Leyendecker of cartoon Illustration! Your use of color just never stops amazing me…with each new illustration I lean over, tilt my head to the right ( my dog does the same thing when I talk to him ) and just float away on the HITH ( text-short for: How In The Heaven ) does he do that thought bubbles. Superb stuff man!

Dennis Jones

…Bernard, I’ve noticed lately that my wife looks at me blankly and tilts her head in a quizzical way when I’m talking, too… just like you and your dog… what’s going on here?

Bernard

..ha, ha….it means that you my friend have entered: ThE TwILiGHT ZoNE! Buhaaahahahahaha

Bigonjee Boi

quit making videos and spell rolls right. (as opposed to roles as in role model which you are not because of your poor grammar). have a nice day pops.

Dennis Jones

…HEY… I don’t need to know how to spell correctly… I’ve got SPELL-CHECK and it said the way I spelled role was JUST fine and if its fine with SPELL-CHECK, it’s fine with me…

Bernard

Gee, that’s no way for Bigonjee Boi to increase the value of his Christmas gift this year. Just for that I would give him a soc-mo.

Dennis Jones

…all that kid ever wanted to be when he was growing up was a hockey player… who knew he lernt spelling along the way somewhere?? …that comment of his must have been his school teacher mom side popping out…

Don Jones

All this role talk makes me hungry for Lamberts… speaking of role ons, I tried some of that new can deodorant, but every time I raise my arms, the can falls out.

Bernard

Lol! Don, try some Dippity-Doo instead. It’s a little known secret but it works, in fact, you can go three maybe four days without a shower. You can even mix it with some Tang instant breakfast powder for a little perfumagation if you like scented deodorant. Caution: After 4-5 hours it get’s super reflective to headlights so you would want to wear a thick coat if you jog at night.

I’m Seeing Spots

December 8, 2008

BaseballFilm

This baseball picture is part of a spot illustration I did for the assignment I’ve been working on for the past month or so. I did a quick count this morning and I’m approach 200 spot illustrations for the project, and I’ve still got a whole bunch left to do.

You can see the YouTube Video here.

The Comments

Bernard

whoa, that’s like 4-5 per day, everyday? Yikes! that’s allot of cintiq & Photoshoppin’ Must be a huge book?

Don Jones

I like the big views and close-ups edits… back and forth… Another winner!

Doug Jones

I’m still lost in the 60s…. who did that music?

Dennis Jones

…Doug, that’s an old Phil Keaggy song from I think the 80’s somewhere…

Doug Jones

so I’m still two decades behind…

Doug Jones

For me, this one was the most fun to watch. I liked seeing it build from the ground up… literally…

Dennis Jones

…don’t forget your fabulous “Socmo In Living Color” opening… with just a bit more spit and polish, we’ll be ready to launch our Brother Jones Music Video channel…

Bernard

I hear ya Doug…me too. Dennis, are freehanding the color blocks in place w/Cintiq or making masks as you go along?

Dennis Jones

…Bernard, I am trying to keep my process just as simple as possible… 3 layers… the middle layer is the line work in multiply mode… the other two layers are in normal mode… I block color in UNDERNEATH the line work and then put the finishing touches on the TOP layer… no masks…

Bernard

Yes! Simple is very good…because I probably don’t have to tell you that I am simple! Seriously, thanks for all you do to help us computer noobies.

Jason Bourne

Simple is better…I prefer this way of life also. This is great.

This is another one of my little “screen capture” movies I recorded a few weeks back. It was an effort to show my entire Photoshop workspace, but combined with the huge loss of compression that takes place when you upload to YouTube, it turned into a grainy, hard to see mess. Perhaps when my kids are home over Christmas, my film producer son can show me the proper settings to use on one of these things. I’m pretty sure right now I have the video program I use set on idiot mode…

You can see the YouTube video here.

Bernard

Aghhh….kidz home for Christmas! I never seen it coming ( so soon ) but with my 50th in the rear view now and with our 14 month old Grandson walkin’ and squakin’ I’m so ready to see all the kids home for Christmas too! sniff, sob. PTL -gotta go watch a Jones Toon-Tube now.

Doug Jones

enjoyed the studio tour.. did something blow up while you were filming this?

Dennis Jones

…yes, my credibility as a serious filmmaker…

Don Jones

I think the grain is a nice effect… the intro had a sci-fi, thriller feel to it.

Doug Jones

Yeah… let’s get more suspense, drama, and special effects into these videos. We need to win an Oscar here on BrotherJones.

Dennis Jones

…I was really hoping to win something with this film at Sundance this year… but with the unfortunate motorcycle wreck at the start of this movie, I don’t think it’s going to happen now…

Doug Jones

I’ll put in a good word for you with Bobby Redford. I’m sure he can get you a spot this year. Remember… dress warm!

Texnick

Great vid and work. Action is something that seems to be of a demand, the Governator might be of some interest in this.

Don Jones

I would rather put this in the running for a Pulitzer.

Dennis Jones

…is that some sorta tractor pull trophy?

Doug Jones

I think it is some kind of chicken… but I’m not sure…

Don Jones

Whatever it is… I hear it’s a PRIZE!

Dennis Jones

…I could really go for a little cashew pulitzer from China Grove right about now…

Bernard

Not sure about the Cashews from China Grove but listening to the Doobies on the treadmill is worth an easy extra .5 on the speed setting!

Don Jones

Ironically, I was just talking about “Skunk” Baxter with someone yesterday. Vintage Takin’ It To The Streets guitarist and Nuclear Defense consultant.

Dennis Jones

…it’s still hard for me to believe the lead guitarist for Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers has been partially responsible for our nuclear defense for the past several years…

Bernard

yeah…just make sure you don’t lose that number or you’ll be reeling in those years.

Texnick

I would like to learn how to play the guitar, maybe I’ll just stick with the rubber-band fer now.

Bernard

er, uh, excuse Texnick, sir, but this is a “Learn How TO Paint Like The Jones Bros.” (and then still not be able to) site. The: “Learn How To Play The Guitar Like The Jones Bros.” (and then still not be able to) site is currently for sale on eBay.

Texnick

Ah,I had my lines crossed…

Cat Spots

CatSpots

Judging from little brother Don’s post this week, and also big brother Doug’s post, apparently it is Spots Week at Brother Jones… so I guess I better get on the stick and put one up, too.

The Comments

Doug Jones

I think I see one pixel out of place on number 5… AM I RIGHT? AM I RIGHT? AM I RIGHT?…

Dennis Jones

…oh, man, I forgot there was supposed to be some sorta game with these… so… YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, DOUG! CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!

Don Jones

That can’t be right… The second kitty on the bottom row is leaning at a 52 degree slant whereas the others are coming in around 51%. (made you look!)

Dennis Jones

…Don …YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!

The “Ripleys” Guy

O.K…..if you stare at the center for about 15 minutes you’ll see a dolphin jumping out of the water! Nice try! I knew I could figure it out.

Dennis Jones

…I tried staring at that center circle for 15 minutes …now I’ve got a severe case of vertigo… thanks a bunch…

The “Ripleys” Guy

I’m sorry! I left the decimal point out! 1.5 minutes……

Bernard

Yes, and at just under 2 minutes it will automatically play the YouTube coloring video in your head.

Dennis Jones

…hey, Bernard, good to see you’ve included a link to your website under your name… It really looks good… I was going to leave you a comment there, but it said I had to be logged first, so I bailed and came back over here to talk. I love the type you used on your title… what typeface is that?

Don Jones

O.K…. I stared at the center kitty for 1.5 minutes and now I am craving Meow Mix… not that I’ve ever eaten it before…

Dennis Jones

…well, I have and I can highly recommend it…

Don Jones

It’s just gotta be better than Ol’ Roy dog food… which is what we are serving at the Brother Jones corporate Christmas party tonight!

Dennis Jones

…did you hear what Pete came home with the other night from one of his Christmas white elephant parties?

Bernard

Aghhh! Busted…I wanted to see how long it would be before you all noticed my name was now linked! Yeah, I’m no longer just a peep and a nozer…well I’m still a nozer but yeah my site’s not finished by any means but then I guess that’s the whole point of a blog isn’t it? Thanks for telling me ‘bout your resistance to register…I got rid of that. I just had that there to keep out the pheasants! (Lol) The font is Mac: Latino-Samba and since I’m a recent “switcher” I have no idea what it is called on the PC. Hope it’s okay to have a link to the Jones Bros. blog there because I did post that in the sidebar menu?

Dennis Jones

…ahhh …now we can be peeps n nozers over on your page for a while… I can hardly wait! …the registration to comment deal is a good idea …I think in practicality, as fast as people cruise thru sites, nobody probably wants to make any extra effort to register, tho. We are all Mac guys around these parts, so I don’t guess we need the PC type name, anyway. Congrats on the new site…

Dennis Jones

Don Jones

I’m not throwing my hat on the ice for nothing!

Wha… ?

Dennis Jones

Wha…?

Don Jones

Wha’s crackulatin’?

Dennis Jones

…ba bawa wha wha…?

Don Jones

Slow the whip down dawg, Nab Jones is right behind us!

Bernard

when you got wha, who needs online security?

The “Ripleys” Guy

Easy one! The left eyeball is bigger than the right one.

Bernard

Sorry, I meant to type wha…?-no wha? no wonder it didn’t redirect me to the secret artpage of the Bros. Jones underground vaults. This site is (basket) case sensitive.

Dennis Jones

…I don’t understand anything on this entire page… and I’m liking that…

Don Jones

Nab Jones is slang for the police.

Bernard

I don’t know about the police but I have not read any literary content this comprehensive since Howard the Duck!

Don Jones

Also, a whip is a car…

Dennis Jones

…the Brother Jones word for the day…

…AVANT-GARDE – pushing the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm or status quo…

Don Jones

I’m gonna jump in the whip and outrun Nab Jones on the old icy trip to my crib. out dog.

Bernard

…this blog is going to the dogs.

Tax Collector

In school I was taught that as an artist, I should work an entire painting up at the same time… but I’m not an artist, I’m an illustrator, and I’m using a computer now and not the old squirrel hair, sticks and mud… so I paint the stuff in the back first and the stuff in the front last. It’s fast and simple. Here’s a small spot illustration I did that shows what I’m talking about.

You can see the YouTube video here.

The Comments

The “Ripleys” Guy

Dennis, I love to watch those but you should put a warning about the scary video at the end!

Dennis Jones

!!!WARNING!!! SCARY VIDEO ENDING ON THIS!!!

Bernard

Dennis, I agree… only Artists have to work up an entire painting at the same time. Just like only humans have to put on their underwear first! I’m a welder so I don’t even paint any underwear at all. Oh no…are we staying on topic here? Quick, Don and Doug get in here and change the topic before we seem like we’re all artists!!!!!!!

Doug Jones

You are amassing a bunch of these videos. I am considering doing one too… we’ll see… Hey, your approach makes the most sense to me. I have seen some painters (excellent oil painter types) that start in one spot and put on a finished stroke. Then they add the next correct stroke next to it and on and on till it is finished. I can’t imagine painting like that. (any hat tricks today?)

Dennis Jones

…no hat tricks today …how are you doing on your work? …are you going to be able to kick back and enjoy Christmas?

Doug Jones

got my major job done on Monday. I’m now sorting things out so I can hit the road on Friday.

Don Jones

That was a shocking ending. I’ve never seen credits roll like that.

Dennis Jones

…well, Don, in some circles I’m known as a pretty edgy film maker… well… crop circles…

Doug Jones

i’m still STUNNED myself…

Don Jones

The circles I run in are under my eyes.
