FishMonger2bb

I recently did a fairly large aquarium themed project which required me to illustrated dozens of fish. After finishing that job, I sat down with my sketchbook, (obviously still in fish drawing mode) and these little fish riders popped out onto the page… so here’s another look at one of them.

Love the fish, Dennis! On a somewhat related note: did you know Peter DeSeve just started a blog?

Dennis Jones

…I’ve always really liked DeSeve’s work.

Jeff

The fish looks like he has the job enthusiasm of a toilet brush.. Awesome work and even more awesome news..Phillips MRI was negative for new growth!!!!!!!!!!1

Don Jones

The only thing missing on this great illustration is a Bass Pro logo.

Dennis Jones

…you know what, Don… now that you mention Bass Pro, this fish looks pretty much exactly like the one I did for our “big mouth” bass t-shirt way back when… I haven’t gotten any better at drawing fish at all!

…that’s good news on Phillip, Jeff. Glad to hear it!

Roballoo

Great image. Very fun. Love that background too. But that red hairy blobby thingy ~ is too crazy. Very Seussian.

Dennis Jones

…you could be right, robalLOO… that’s kinda what you get when you work quick… “how ‘bout red for this? …why not? …hmmm, well, good enough, what next.” …if I were to take another stab at this I do think I would tone that element down, but I’ve already moved on down the road and this one is yesterdays news…

Jeff

Maybe his brother is Lyle Lovett?

fantastic, I’m your fan dennis!

A New Title, sorta

September 11, 2009

SWMCoverRWMToddler

A few years ago, my See With Me Bible was released. It was all pictures and virtually no text. It was something pre-readers could look at on their own, and something parents could use to tell their children the stories in their own words. Sales figures indicated the wordless concept was just not connecting, so the title was pulled off the market, text was added along with a new cover and title and we now have the brand new (sorta) Read With Me for TODDLERS!

You can take a look at it here on Amazon.

The “Ripleys” Guy

Dennis, I want to purchase one of these early Bibles for my Grandaughter (5 1/2 years of age) Which would you recommend: this new version for Toddlers or the Read With Me NIrV? Thanks

Don Jones

Kenny G. plays the sax… Denny G. plays the cintiq! It’s all beautiful music, man…

Dennis Jones

Mr. Ripley Guy… I’d go for the sorta brand new “Toddler” Bible… it’s almost like brand new except really not at all…

Jeff

As a proud owner of several copies I hope that the sorta brand new pages are more resistant to the following: Cheezy poof residue- Red fruit punch- “Sneeze Cheese”- Crayons …Other than that my copies are as near mint as one can be after 3 kids.

Don Jones

Jeff Fisher struck that same pose as Noah last night when Hines Ward got stripped.

Dennis Jones

…man, the Titans looked scary good last night… it worries me for the home town Colts that play in the same division as them…

…Jeff, after three kids if any pages are still attached you’ve got a winner…

Nik

I’m an owner as well and do enjoy them as an “adult”. I’m a kid at heart though. Corgrats Cowboys on the first win of the season!!!

Dan Lietha

Aw man … add a new cover and a few words and now I have to go and buy it because I have to have all that cool Dennis Jones stuff. Oh well, I gotta do what I gotta do! 🙂

BTW, I had a chance to use the Cintiq 12WX for a few days as my 21UX was out for repairs and I found the 12WX was too small to use well, for me at least. The larger 20 or 21 inch versions provide that much needed context to an image even when zoomed in real close.

Dennis Jones

…interesting …because I have really been wishing for a tablet laptop of some sort that I could do real live digital painting with away from my studio…

…I thought maybe the 12WX might be an option, but you still have to lug around cords and a laptop to run it with… I’ve been looking hard at the ModBooks, but I’m scared to get a brand new computer that has been torn down and modified… I think there are some pc tablets out there, but I dont know anything about them…

Doug Jones

I just read some things recently about folks buying the Modbook. They sounded really good till I saw how much they cost! I also read some guys complaining about their brand new Cintiqs getting scratches on the screens. Any problem with that?

Don Jones

Don’t get Denny G. started talking about his “ailments.”

Dennis Jones

…right after I got my brand new Cintiq, I let Peter give it a try and mysteriously had a little scratch on the screen after that…

Britni Brault

Now that our daughter has officially torn all the pages out of the “See With Me” bible and chewed on most of the cover I’m going to have to get her a new one. Ill check out the “New” edition but I do love the one with only pictures. They might have had to add words because people don’t read their own bible so how could they tell the stories to their kids when that is their own study time too=)

Britni Brault

Okay I admit it, it can be my only devotional time too. But I also watch Veggie Tales.

Doug Jones

I wonder if the discontinued wordless Bible will become a rare, valuable item. I’m putting my copy in a zip lock bag just in case…

Dennis Jones

…check the price of some of the old ones on Amazon right now…

Dan Lietha

I purchased a copy of the original Read with me Bible for 50 cents at a garage sale!

Dennis Jones

…hey Dan… are you a Brett Farve fan yet or still waiting to see how that situation all works out?

…that touchdown of Adrian Peterson on Sunday was the best run I’ve seen, well, maybe ever… when you stop in the middle of your run, grab hold of a defender and throw him out of bounds, then start running again and still beat everyone to the end zone… wow… a thing of beauty…

TuhTONKa Fire Engine

tuhTONKaEngine2

Our dad was from Oklahoma and we have some Indian blood in us from his side of the family. I was always fascinated by this and quizzed him constantly about what specific tribe we were associated with. All he would ever say was, “I hope it was Cherokee, but I’m afraid it was Apache”.

After doing exhaustive research into this subject, I have concluded it was neither Cherokee or Apache… it was TuhTONKa. As we know from the movie “Dances With Wolves” (which is where I did the bulk of my research) tuhTONKa means buffalo… or dumb bear… I probably need to watch that again to firm up my conclusions.

Anyway, above we see the TuhTONKa medicine man DancesWithWeasels, styling in a pair of high top Chuck Taylor moccasins.

yes, I recognize this guy from our backyard Pow Wows in the “Grove.” I always like it when the weasels join in… it makes every dance just that more exciting! ~ StandsWITHaFISH

Dennis Jones

..good to hear from you StandsWithaFish!

…wasn’t little brother Don’s indian name StandsToPee? …I can’t remember…

Don Jones

Wrong again WeaselWacker… my indian given name was: High Steppin’ RabbitSmasher.

Dennis Jones

…sorry HiSteppinWabbitSmasher…

Don Jones

Yes, that was indeed pronounced Wabbit. Weally weirud I forgot that…

Jeff

I had plenty of Tuh TONKA trucks growing up.. Does that count?? If so my name shall be Big Chief Tablet

Dennis Jones

BigChiefTablet… congratulations…

JEFF

Is that war paint on his face or rabid Weasel bite marks? I’m pretty sure weasel bites can transmit the dreaded “Pig Fever”.

The “Ripleys” Guy

Off subject a little…received the “new” Toddler Read Bible yesterday and the GDaughter loves it!! Thanks, StandsInAFog

An Unhelpful Tutorial

SuperHeroCover

I noticed the other day I had a folder sitting on my desktop labelled “superHvideo” and had no idea what it was. I opened it and inside were screen shots of a job I was working on at the first of the year. Apparently I was planning to make a video with them… so I did… this weekend… and here it is loaded into the comment section below. I must warn you though, it has a very scary opening so watch out!

I like that retro football padding on your hand… just like Deacon Jones used to wear… and Rosie. (Greer not O’Donnell) The first solution is always the BEST solution. A good mantra to live by… plus, saves time.

Nik

Kewl. Do a how to draw vid, it would be interesting…

Jeff

And the cool background music that would give the musical score to Halloween a run for its money..

Dennis Jones

…I was sitting here working today and realized, man, I am just freezing. I had to go downstairs and change out of my shorts and t-shirt and into sweatpants, a long sleeve shirt and actually put on a pair of socks… I fear winter is back for us…

Nick Jones Everybody

I believe that music belongs to the “Carnie” genre….

Dennis Jones

…thats the soundtrack that’s playing in my head as I go about my daily business…
