Hey Kids!

RainDear

“Look at the rain, Dear!”

Hey kids… I heard on the news that an airline pilot spotted Santa’s sleigh on it’s way in from New York City!

…you serious, Clark?

The Comments

Don Jones

This classic triangular composition is obviously something you recall from one of your Diane Strickland art history classes.

Dennis Jones

…well, if I’m recalling anything it must be a dream I had because I sat on the back row of that class so I could lean my head on the wall and sleep when she turned the lights out to show those slides…

Jason Bourne

Now we’re in the right mood. I can almost hear “Silver Bells” playing in the background…

Don Jones

I like that dementia Christmas tune “I Think I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”

Doug Jones

Dennis… are you signaling our annual quote fest? Here is mine… Eddie: I don’t know if I oughta go sailin’ down no hill with nothin’ between the ground and my brains but a piece of government plastic. Clark: Do you really think it matters, Eddie?

Dennis Jones

-well, it is tradition here at Brother Jones you know…

Don Jones

Aunt Bethany: Do you hear it? It’s a funny squeaky sound. Uncle Lewis: You couldn’t hear a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerin plant!

Jeff

Mrs. Claus is stylin’ with her leg warmers… good work Dennis

Roballoo

Merry Christmas to all of my fellow Bro. Jonesers. Many thanks for enlivening my days over the past year with your pitter-patter. Thanksers again.

Doug Jones

Although we DO appreciate your kind words, Roballoo, Cash is even better! 20s and 50s are fine. :o) Oh… and a big Murray Christmas right back at you!

Don Jones

Doug, I just missed you yesterday by about 5 minutes down in Mtn. Grove. I had to make a trip to Wal-Marts in Mtn. Grove to pick up a Nintendo… they were the only store in SW MO that had any. Mom thought you had come back for something… Merry Christmas little fella!

Jason Bourne

Merry Christmakkah to all… and to all good night/day.

Mr. Moleskine

January 8, 2008

MoleMole1

My brother Doug gave me a sketchbook for Christmas and not just any sketchbook, mind you… a MOLESKINE watercolor sketchbook… the legendary notebook of Hemingway, Picasso and Chatwin. With names like that attached to this elegant little journals history, it’s a pretty intimidating thing to try to put a picture into it. (I don’t know who the Chatwin fellow is, but I’m sure he is very intimidating, too). Last night, thanks in large part to the current television writers strike, I found myself in my studio and decided to go for it. The Moleskine… legendary notebook of Hemingway, Picasso, and now, BrotherJones.

The Comments

Don Jones

Den, you have successfully conquered the intimidating “first page”… nice. I have yet to get my watercolors to perform like this. Did you leave page out of my tutorial?

Jason Bourne

Swanky, by far… Nothing like a good sketch book.

Doug Jones

Off to a great start, there! I wonder just how many moles have to be skinned to make one sketchbook?

Dennis Jones

…it’s a hairier surface than I’m used to working on, but I’m getting used to it…

Don Jones

It doesn’t look as though Brother Jones will be “going green” … we aren’t even concerned about the little moles.

Dennis Jones

…I tried painting on them while they were still alive but that didn’t work so good…

Doug Jones

I have been looking for a Weaselskine sketchbook but haven’t been able to find one…

Dennis Jones

…Doug, just so you know what you’re looking for, this is what a Weaselskine looks like, the legendary notebook of underachievers, slackers, and procrastinators…

Don Jones

nice hide.

Jason Bourne

That would make a great shirt.

Doug Jones

On second thought… maybe a sketchbook with feathers….

Dennis Jones

…with all this outdoors talk you need to check out ESPNOUTDOORS today…

Don Jones

Wow! That’s nice coverage… $1 billion in deer damage and a direct link to DennisJonez.com.

Dennis Jones

…ya gotta look fast, won’t be on the front page fer long…

Roballoo

Looks nice. What size is that MOLESKINE? It looks big if those are 1” squares on the cutting board? The first sketch is always the hardest isn’t it.

Roballoo

I wonder if Bro. Dennis got any extra hits on his ol’ web site with the link from ESPNOutdoors.com?

Dennis Jones

…those pages are 8.25 X 5 …which seems to be a great size for the little portrait studies I’ve been doing in it…

WoodPile

The seasons are changing here in Indiana, it’s getting kinda nippy at night, and that means one thing… time for me to cut fire wood. I am trying something new this season… the legendary wood PILE. I have found this to be much easier than stacking wood into orderly rows… not that I’m looking for the easy way out or anything…

The Comments

Don Jones

That’s one good lookin’ wood pile. Bet you burned off a few 3 Musketeers putting that together.

Jason Bourne

Yep..Fall is here again. Soon it will be Thanksgiving and Christmas in no time…

Doug Jones

This wood pile is not high enough… I am highly offended…

Blue Christmas Crab

December 10, 2009

BlueCrab2

…ok, so I need to post something up because my last page expired but I have nothing to say and nothing to show so maybe if I just start typing something brilliant will magically appear here…

…ok, well that didn’t work…

The Comments

Zaz

Jingle Shells, Jingle Shells, Barnacles all the way…Dennis drew this Christmas Crab and now has nothing to say. I’ve got your back Dude…

Doug Jones

Excellent… you had me reading up to the very end. I really liked the surprise twist at the end. Hey… that grayish color above the lips… nice fade/texture… whad you do there?

Dennis Jones

…it’s a Festivus Day M… I mean… a Christmas Time MIRACLE… I typed something stupid and something brilliant appeared courtesy of Zaz!!

…Doug, that’s a custom crosshatchin’ Photoshop brush…

Nik

Awesome, love the bumps.

Jeff

Kinda looks like Elvis…The later years.

Doug Jones

I say throw him in the pot and watch him turn red!

Jeff

Kinda Rough considering the season Doug…

Don Jones

I’lll-la-have-a-la-baaa-luuuue crab thing, for Christmas…

Jeff

Do Da Do Do Doo…

Bucky Jones

Great character. Love the weight and feel of it.

Dennis Jones

Bucky! It’s been a long time! I remember way back when we first fired this site up you tried to apply as an honorary Brother Jones and get a privileged commenting color like us (which we don’t have any control of)… at least, I seem to remember that was you… anyway, hope all is well with you.

The12DaysOf Fishmas Day3

December 16, 2009

Fishmas3

On the third day of Fishmas ole Socmo gave to me… three lobsters…

…two dim sea turtles… and a clown fish in a blue sea…

The Comments

Doug Jones

Ol SocMo is passing out a slimy Christmas this year it seems…

Dennis Jones

…Socmo kinda lost his grasp on reality several years ago…

Jeff

As long as Socmo knows how to melt butter, I’ll help deal with the Lobsters.

Dennis Jones

…I’d eat an old shoe if I could dip it in melted butter…

Nik

Awesome, this makes me want to go eat at Red Lobster.

Don Jones

This lobster is a tad too happy… must not reached the boiling point yet.

Dennis Jones

…Socmo’s got the stock pot on the stove and the waters heating up… it’s only a matter of time before this lobster’s attitude heats up…

Doug Jones

you should give up the Cintiq and paint with Q-tips like I do. I have a giant box of them from Costco.

Dennis Jones

…sacrilege! …I will never go back to painting with q-tips. …they leave way too much hairy residue in the finished artwork.

Jeff

All I use for painting is Black and White Spray Paint, Big Number stincils and a Speed Limit Sign…Then sit back and watch the fun..

Doug Jones

but have you ever tried cleaning out your ears with a Cintiq? It’s quite painful.

The12DaysOf Fishmas Day4

December 17, 2009

Fishmas4

On the fourth day of Fishmas ole Socmo gave to me… four yellow fish… three lobsters… two dim sea turtles… and a clown fish in a blue sea…

The Comments

Doug Jones

I like yellow fish with tartar sauce and fries…

Dennis Jones

…tartar sauce is the Thanksgiving cranberry sauce of Fishmas…

Jeff

And Coleslaw is the stuffing…

Don Jones

My taste buds are going crazy… but this yellow fish is too cute to ingest.

Dennis Jones

…he went a little too heavy on his green mascara if you ask me…

Nik

Really cool. Nice and yellowy!!

Jeff

He’s a Punk Rocker…Note the striped Mohawk.

Eva

gosh, your drawings are so good! simply love them. can’t resist them. 🙂

The12DaysOf Fishmas Day5

December 18, 2009

I see this song going straight to the top right over Grandma got run over by a reindeer.

Dennis Jones

…that song will have tire tracks on it’s back by the time we’re thru here…

Nik

Coolness indeed!!!

Dennis Jones

…this guy was apparently eating Cheerios for breakfast because they seem to be stuck all over his tentacles…

The12DaysOf Fishmas Day6

December 19, 2009

Fishmas6

On the sixth day of Fishmas ole Socmo gave to me… six long nose fishies…

On the eighth day of Fishmas ole Socmo gave to me… eight fish a flipping… seven seahorse swimming… six long nose fishies…

…five octopuses…

…four yellow fish …three lobsters …two dim sea turtles …and a clown fish in a blue sea…

The Comments

Nik

Radical! More yellowy.

Jeff

They are gettin cooler as Fishmas nears… Still waitin’ on a shark though.

Dennis Jones

…sometimes Fishmas closes with a disastrous shark attack and sometimes it doesn’t… we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best…
