ElephantSketches

…random sketchbook pages…

…leaving in the linework…

I’m still trying to figure out what I want digital color to look like. I don’t know whether to leave the line work showing, totally paint it out, or come up with some hybrid of the two, so I keep experimenting… and posting them here.

One thing I really like about this is how quickly you can move color onto a drawing. I’ve been scanning random sketchbook pages into my computer so that when the urge to do a little digital painting hits me, I can just snag a sketch and go.

How is your Wacom Tablet Fund doing? Maybe Keegan should work a PayPal button on here for those spur-of-the-moment contributions.

Dennis Jones

…haven’t gotten around to getting a tablet yet… I’m not going to have a lot of time for the next few weeks to mess with this stuff anyway…

Doug Jones

…you will be spending your time out in the field on that big gourd harvest, right?

Dennis Jones

…we do have a fine harvest of tobacco box gourds this year…

Roballoo!

Nice. One of my favorite digital images fromm you yet. I guess this is kind of a hybrid thingy since I can stil see the linework?

Don Jones

Speaking of harvesting… the local authorities just busted our local elementary art teacher for having meth in the classroom. Strange but true. This could be my opening to get back into art edukashun.

Doug Jones

we had a kindergartener show up here with a bag of Marijuana and a loaded hand gun in her backpack…. the mom got arrested…

Dennis Jones

…I’ve been thinking about sitting in on a couple of night classes at our local university… I suppose I better get a gun and some drugs if I’m going to fit in with the other kids…

Don Jones

Good one Den… and don’t forget to wear a pair of Croks along with your hockey jersey.

Dennis Jones

…no one will even notice that I’m 300 years older than them…

Doug Jones

ever heard of “can’t teach an old dog new tricks?”

Dennis Jones

…I’m livin’ that every day…

Doug Jones

if anyone hassels you cuz you are 300 years old, just throw one of your Croks at ‘em…

I too can’t decide whether or not to leave the Pencil line work or not. But i do like the way if looks with it kind of keeps it loose and adds action to it. like my Football player that i did as my first digital painting. since then i have done one other and like the results so i guess i will leave them in for now. So… “what’s this all about,” you ask? Well, it’s pretty much just your basic elephant standing on a background of brown swirlies with some type covering up the problematic dead space in the upper right hand corner… pretty standard stuff…

Elly, Elly, big fat belly, Cinder Elephant. Had to bone up on this story this morning.

Dennis Jones

…there’s a story to this?

Doug Jones

has CinderElly been snorting watermellons?

Jason Bourne

Gnarly…Nothing like swirls to  brighten up your day.

Don Jones

I GOOGLED up CinderElephant and discovered a nice little story about a fat girl who liked sports and her two super skinny stepsisters.

Bernard

I like the art but a flesh colored Elephant? Dr. Suess would not approve.

Bernard

Hey, wait a minute here….now there are swirls in the flashing banner at the top of this blog? Now either you’ve gone swirl crazy or you’re using your brothers istock photo accounts again?

Don Jones

Swirl craziness + Dennis Jones Cintiq Illustrations = mighty fine art insanity.

Dennis Jones

…when the history books are written about the Jones Brothers blog site this will be referred to as Dennis’ swirly period…

Bernard

Hey I’m not trying to unionize the Brothers Jones blog or anything but has any of you visitors ( uh, that be everyone not named Jones ) noticed that the Jones boys get a nice bright namebar above their post while we get stuck to a drab, dry-wall looking color that is not even in most color palettes? I mean, I know I’m not a card carrying member of the Neopolitan Artist’s Guild but what’s with the bland pueter color? I would hate to see this evolve into a town meeting so howz about some love here? Can you give Keegan a ring and have him hit us with another shade of pale before my self esteem goes any lower? I know…you can repent and show some love right off, by having him program the blog to give every non-Jones a DIFFERENT color? Yes, that’s right I have just a little too much time on my hands don’t I? Just Goofin’ for some attention. I should get RED as a warning for long blog comments?

Dennis Jones

…HEY, BERNARD, THAT’S A REALLY GOOD IDEA. I’LL GET KEEGAN RIGHT ON THAT!

…pssst …doug …don …get the fire hoses ready …it looks like the peasants are revolting…

Don Jones

Bernard… get some decaf.

Dennis Jones

…yeesh, Don, that sounded a little harsh… of course, I did call our visitors peasants… so… hmmm.. I may have to wipe this page clean in case we’ve offended anybody and start all over…

Jason Bourne

Its all good. I’m a peasant of the Jones’ clan. Hang in there Bernard, we’re all for ya…

Bernard

Hey, don’t go getting politically correct on us now…besides I would rather be a pheasant in the house of Jones than a super star on a blog nobody visits! Don, I smash my own coffee beans with my pen tablet ( gotta use it for something )and mix them with socmo juice! Jason, you mispelled pheasant! Maybe Dennis can paint us a GREEN one? Buhhhaaaha! Ha! I’m here for thearpy because what else can we do now that paint fumes are becoming extinct?

Don Jones

Bernard, let me backtrack and apologize for my harsh sounding, caffeine induced retort. Your multi-colored comment box idea is a good one. Off to therapy…
