Blogspot Interview

December 26, 2005

Goliath

I recently did an interview for Character Design Blogspot. In a rush to get it submitted before leaving town I had to submit several illustrations from my Brother Jones Portfolio that you have already seen. There are, however, several new pictures of a job that I was working on at the time in various stages of finish.

Great interview , nice advices and its was great to see that guys like Mort drucker and Jack Davis inspired your work! I love those guys styles !!!!  Mr jones , I wish you a merry christmas and a great 2006 filled with happyness and success!!!!!

Dennis Jones

Thanks Marcelo… I wish you the same for this coming year… keep in touch…

Paul Taylor

Hi Dennis- Thanks for sharing your thought process. I know all about that nasty “time issue”; everyone wants things yesterday. Glad to know I’m not the only one. Hope you and your family had a joyous Merry Christmas. All the best for 06!

Dennis Jones

Thanks Paul… I’m just happy someone connected the words “thought process” and my name together… they are traditionally non-sequiturs…

Refrigerator Door

June 9, 2008

EPAAward

This certificate arrived at my house over the weekend and I’m not really sure what to do with it. When my boys were in grade school and would come home with certificates and we didn’t know what to do with them, we would always just tack them to the refrigerator door with a magnet. My Brother Jones page is apparently now just a hi-tech refrigerator door for me to hang things on.

This little comic book was a really fun project to do. I was given eight pages to work with and was told to tell the story of ShadRach, MeShach and ToBedWeGo in my own words for really young kids.

You can see the comic here.

Dennis, YOU WERE ROBBED!! If the Three Guys Comic came in third place, then first and second must have been drawn by Drucker and Jack Davis. I really like how the last page snaps to a soothing, brilliant cyanish blue.

Dennis Jones

…the designer I worked with wrote me a little note and said she really liked the way I worked the word, “guys” into a Bible story… it is a DJV after all…

Jason Bourne

You could copy it onto a T-shirt. I bet no one has ever done that.

Doug Jones

EXCELLENT! Nice award, Denny! Glad to see it hanging on the old refrigerator. While I’m here I think I’ll help myself to some of that left over pizza I see in the fridge… and some of that tea… Hey, this is great timing… I have a SUGGESTION for another comic you can illustrate. If you do it I’m SURE it will win even more awards for you!

Bernard

Dennis, Congratulations! It’s always nice to be recognized ( except when involved in a covert military operation ). I’m with Don on the third place rip though. Any way we can view the 1st and 2nd place finishers? Don’t know Drucker but love Jack Davis’ work…is he still swinging a brush or has he been Cintiq’ed as well?

Don Jones

Drucker … as in Mort. The man.

Bernard

…so that’s Mortimer Drucker, or, Drucker Mort Mann? I heard of Sam Drucker…Petticoat Juntion I think?

gary Locke

are you cintiqued???!???!! alas, i am not yet…hopefully this year…..is it great?

gary Locke

oh man!!! the slideshow at the top is SO COOL……i love the bkgd designs——how you do that??

Jason Bourne

Can’t forget a good name… Or good food. LOL

Gary Locke

nice statue——and crown-and iron work on the staircase——-and furious robe……and purple circles.

Dennis Jones

. . . H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y R A C H E L !

Don Jones

WOw… That must have been an incredibly iced cake.

Job

Job1Job2

I was digging through my external hard drive yesterday and happened upon a series of halftone pictures I had done for a job several years ago. I pulled this one out, and slopped some color onto it during lunchtime. The color is a little dark, but then again, so was Job’s life.

Doug Jones

Was Job the original Zombie?…

Jeff

Poor guy!! Nice work though…

Don Jones

Les miserable! Is that French? Les itchible…

The “Ripleys” Guy

Had he not had on sandals and a cloak, I would have thought it was the Castaway Hanks.

Dennis Jones

…WILSON!!!

Nik

Great to see old work. you should put Wilson in there from Castaway.

Jeff

Or the Nagging wife that was the “Pillar of Support” throughout the early chapters.

Oscar Martin

Perfecto!

Dennis Jones

…wow, Oscar… I love your artwork… and your book really has a great look to it. Is it available in the U.S.?

Oscar Martin

Unfortunately not translated into English 😦  The first thing I remembered seeing your work was to Jack Davis. I love it.

Dennis Jones

…rats …so many of the illustrated books I like are from other countries and are not published in English or even available here in the U.S. …maybe someday…
