Well, I’ve finally done it… I’ve jumped into the world of film making and I’d like to announce the premier of my first feature length film! …well it’s only 46 seconds long, but I have a pretty short attention span. You can see it here on YouTube.

The Comments

Doug Jones

mega awesomeness dittos…. I liked seeing the progress happen at each stage. Good color on this guy! …and another Swashbuckling belt to hold in the groceries

Don Jones

I am now a charter subscriber to the Dennis Jones YouTube channel. I pass out 5 stars like free money. That music is quite contemplative, reflective… I think I heard it on an elevator.

Dennis Jones

…Doug, one of the Dennis Jones Keys To Good Comedy is to put a big fat belt on everybody…

…Don, the bands Journey, Yes and Boston all found new lead singers by watching guys sing on YouTube, so I decided I better get on YouTube quick, keep my fingers crossed hoping the Doobie Brothers discover me, drop this art gig, and hit the road with them…

Don Jones

hit the road with them… as a roadie! Don’t give up on your Weasel group so fast … there’s still time to gel and write a couple of hits.

W E A S E L – the One Hitless Wonder.

Dennis Jones

…if I could just move closer to Oklahoma City I could strong arm Nick into playing drums, Pete into playing lead guitar, beg you to come play keyboards, I would hold down the bass and WE WOULD hit the road with… WEASELBOYZ!!! THE ONE HITLESS WONDERS!!

Jason Bourne

It’s Little John from Robin Hood. Or so it reminds of, in the Disney animated classic…swanky.

Doug Jones

can I join the band… I have a ukulele and just recently bought an ocarina at a craft fair…

Dennis Jones

…if you can play that Joe Brown song on the uke, you’re in!

Bigonjee Boi

Very inspiring. Reminds me of Hoosiers when they win the championship.

Dennis Jones

…do ya think? …I was afraid my plot line was just a bit thin.

Don Jones

I shop iTunes everyday hoping to pick up that classic WeaselBoy tune “Bit-O-Honey.”

Dennis Jones

…as much as I would like to claim that song, that one’s not mine… that one belonged to Pete…

Jason Bourne

Maybe I’ll be a Weasel Whisperer one day sooner or later…

Jon Slone

Hey Dennis, I need a website. Can you recomend someone good and on the low side? Also, any tips or things I should avoid? I asked you this before and you said to go to blogger.com. But isn’t a blog different from a web page? I may be wrong. I just need a little help. Thanks.

Bernard

Oh my God! Now it’s YouTube….why aren’t you acting OUR age? There is no telling where this could end. Better get out your Ross Fro cuz I can see you at all the Art’s & Craft store openings now! Actually, I’m looking forward to following your fame on tour…saw an old van along the road I might buy and fix up. Yepper! Gonna be a Jones Bros. groupie.

roballoo

Good job on the videos. The colors on this really pop.Great use of the interwebs. Wonder if this will lead to a how-to book deal?

Jason Bourne

Yea, do How-to on YouTube also!

Dennis Jones

Bernard, I dug around and found my Bob Ross wig… still fits great!

Dennis Jones

Jon… up there on the left of my page is a link to “WeaselBoy”… that is a Blogger page… you can put up pictures, you can write stuff… you can probably accomplish whatever it is you want to do for free with it… most web designers charge buckets of money to build web sites… you could figure Blogger out and manage it yourself for free…

Bernard

Jon, Take it from Link ( Mod Squad ) and go ahead and give blogger a try. If nothing else you’ll have something to show someone somewhere until you can get a regular website. I’m actually switching from a website to a blog instead, but then I’m used to going the other way. Aghhh!! Is that a mouse your holding Den? I just saw that!

Dennis Jones

…yes, that picture was from back when I first starting digital painting, I didn’t have a Wacom tablet yet, and I was just using a mouse…

Doug Jones

You wore that mouse down to whiskers… have you worn out a Cintiq pen yet?

Dennis Jones

…yep, I still have that old mouse in a shed out back… sometime I visit Mr. Jingles and watch him do tricks…

Doug Jones

now the official Brother Jones follow up question: …Really?

Bigonjee Boi

i know its not the same, but i have some gerbils you can try out…

Dennis Jones

…rumor has it you’re planning to join WeaselBoy and play lead guitar in the upcoming Awesomeness Dittos Concert Tour…

Bigonjee Boi

…as long as we cover some wham…

Dennis Jones

…we’ll open our concerts with a cover of Careless Whisper…that oughta get the crowd really worked up and ready for a rockin’ show!

Jason Bourne

Yea, rock’em bop’em and soc’em!

Bernard

Lol!

roballoo

Will there be any concert videos of this Wham! tribute band on You Tube?

Dennis Jones

…no, but there will be a table in the back of each concert with WeaselBoy video cassettes and 8-tracks available for purchase…

Mac Artist

Just came across your illustration “Stress-less Parenting” in Enrichment magazine. Been a big fan and great to see you are doing so well. We are at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, surrounded by Ozarkians. However, a native of Hoosier Land and still big a fan of the Colts. Saw your bio on these two lands! Love your illustrations and appreciate all you are doing out there. Great youtube video! Blessings – Jennifer Cook

Don Jones

Den, I put your web address on that illustration you did for Enrichment magazine. Looks like people DO READ the fine print.

…ok, so I was talking to my oldest son Nick who produces film for a living and I asked him what he thought about the films I’ve been producing and he didn’t seem too very impressed with them so I said they didn’t look that good on the internet and he said that’s because YouTube compresses the tar out of everything and that I needed to use Vimeo so I immediately created another one of my little low budget spaghetti westerns and then proceeded to load it up on Vimeo AND YouTube for a little compare and contrast but the only difference I could see was that the Vimeo website has better looking graphics than YouTube does so the only thing I seem to have really accomplished today is to set a new world record for the longest sentence ever written on the Brother Jones web site for which I am very, very proud…

See the VIMEO video HERE.

See the YOUTUBE video here.

The Comments

Don Jones

In the middle of reading your lengthy one sentence blog, I felt short of breath, somewhat dizzy and almost passed out. Love that choppy water. You gotta remember that Nick has higher standards than the original Joneses.

Dennis Jones

…for us original Joneses, if the job gets done, it’s plenty good enough…

Doug Jones

mega awesomeness dittos on that sentence, Den.

Bernard

Dennis, Awesome Art, The YouTubes are fine for me…but I’m not talking to you because of the Colts! Ben picked a fine time to go a slumpin’ now everybody here is yellin’ for Byron! So, I guess that our fans are no different than anywhere else…what have you done for us lately?

Bernard

Hey Keegan, wherez the spell check?

Don Jones

You simply cannot beat Herb Alpert music … very fitting selection for the Surfin’ Dawg. It made me feel like I was on the beach!

Dennis Jones

…ya want to hit one outa the ball park? …add Herb Alpert to it… works ever time… a little advice for Nick from Den and Don…

…Bernard, look on the bright side… at least Indiana doesn’t have a hockey team to knock the Penguins off with…

Bernard

No, but what’s with the assumption that if they did, they would? Herb Alpert…gotta go check this out!

Dennis Jones

…I don’t believe that’s assumption, I believe that’s just a fact that you will be unable to disprove at this time, Bernard…

Doug Jones

you just can’t beat BrotherJones logic!

Jason Bourne

The Brother Jones logic book has a nice ring to it!

Bernard

Amen. But at least weez ain’t gutt noes “Potheads” fer a baseball team!

Dennis Jones

…sorry, that doesn’t count… they’re minor league… on the other hand, if Indiana did have a major league baseball team, the Pirates would really be in trouble…

Don Jones

All this makes absolutely no sense to me and is quite hard to follow. Keep up this fine bloggin’ material.

Dennis Jones

…it’s Monday, Don, I’m just typing random words together and pretending they make sense…

Bernard

Hey Dennis, thanks for showing me some mercy because boy did I almost walk into that one! You coulda said, “Even your Minor Leaguers can beat the Pirates”! Whew! That was a close one.

Don Jones

Bernard, by this last comment, you are way too sharp to be reading this Jones Brother nonsense. Your I.Que. has gotta be in tha triple digits range.

roballoo

A real subcultural quality to those waves there. Reminds me a bit of Breadwig’s stuff. But he’s doin’ some of his illustrations in actual 3d programs. I wish there was a way we could actually see you do your digital painting. But that might be giving away too many of your secrets. If you were to consider it though, this program might be of interest. haven’t tried it, but Ive heard a lot of good things about it: flip4mac But it’s probably best for when you want to get real serious about tutorializing.

Dennis Jones

…thanks RobalLOO, I’ll take a look at that… I downloaded a demo copy of I-Show-U, have piddled around with it several times, but it really seems to bog my system down when I use it, so I never bought it… these little videos I’ve been making are mostly for my own entertainment as I try to get my I-Movie video editing chops down…

Jason Bourne

We will see, what we can see. Perhaps I need to get more tech savvy since I’m in the Jones Domain of Art. Lots to learn here.

Doug Jones

wha?…

Taylor McGee

I think these videos would be better if they had some Weasel Boy music…

Dennis Jones

…I think they’d be better if they just had some weasels, period…

Bernard

Don’t you just love it ( chick-a-boom ). Now we all remember someone’s grandmother/grandfather telling us that if you give them an inch, they will want a yard! now this is why us peasants are always out in the yard! Because that’s what we want from poor old Dennis! A Yard! a Yard! We like those vidoes and how-tooeys but…WE WANT MORE! LIGHT THE TORCHES!

Bernard

Give us online classes in real-time or give us death ( your wacom would suffice ).

Jason Bourne

All in favor of online classes: say “Aye”….AYE!

Bernard

Jason…it’s Arrrgh not aye! Do you have a torch?

Don Jones

NOTE TO SELF: Check batteries on the Brother Jones blog smoke detector.

Bernard

Yeah…nothing like a little heat to keep you three honest.

roballoo

I, Eye, Aye!

I’m currently working on a 43 page project, which I didn’t think would be that much of a problem until I received the job and realized that each one of those pages had a front AND a back to it. That shot my page count up to 86 pages plus a few others thrown in for good measure… so I’m kinda busy right now.

I’m doing tons of spot illustration for this assignment, so I downloaded I-Show-U for twenty bucks, and recorded the picture I was working on last night. You can see it HERE.

The Comments

Mike Lang

Thanks for posting this! It is awesome to see how you work step by step.

Don Jones

BRAVO!! Brilliant. WeaselBoy Productions is picking up speed.

Bernard

Brillant! What else you got? …go ahead and pay some bills Denn, there’s 2 more of you Joneses to torture until you get back! Idea: Getcher $20 back and then some by recording the project your on now and selling it to us peasants!

Bernard

Hey Mike Lang! Is you the Pittsburgh Hockey Mike Lang?

Jason Bourne

This is swanky as usual… The impression here is great!

Doug Jones

Now we’re TALKIN’ best 20 bucks you have spent lately, I’d say.

Dennis Jones

…Mike, I didn’t know you announced Pittsburgh Penguins games in your spare time…

Dan Lietha

To watch Dennis Jones digitally paint in a screen capture video is a dream come true! And with Mylon LeFevre and Broken Heart to boot! My week is complete. 🙂 Thanks man!

Bernard

he shoots and SCORES! Aghhhhh “Michael, Michael, Motorcycle”!!!! If this is the wrong Mike Lang, poor mike will not have a clue what I’m talking about! or… “Scratch my back with a hacksaw, you gotta be here to believe it”!

Doug Jones

I believe this Mike Lang is the goalie for the LifeWay Ligers.

Jason Bourne

{Wind blows by} Its desolate here. Hope to see you again Mr.Lang.

roballoo

Thanks for the video. It was treat. It’s amazing how far you’ve come in your digital painting skills in such a short amount of time.

WeaselFootball

It’s Thanksgiving week and that means a whole lot of food, fun and football… so to get things kicked off right, here’s a YouTube video tribute to the legendary Sheboygan Wild Weasels.

You can see the video here.

The Comments

Don Jones

The painting… the music…. brilliant! I am pumped for Thanksgiving and I don’t know why.

Dennis Jones

…you don’t know why?? …here’s two words for you… WEASELS FOOTBALL!

Doug Jones

awesomeness dittos… a little tech question: do you do the darks with a brush on multiply? you don’t use the burn and dodge tools do you?

Dennis Jones

…I don’t do the multiply because it seems to add too much saturation… no burn, no dodge… I paint everything with the brush in normal mode…

Doug Jones

hmmm… we need a little Christmas time Cintiq workshop

Dennis Jones

…hey, my offer still stands… you get a Cintiq and I’ll drive down to Nashville and show you everything I know about it…. shouldn’t take more that 6 or 7 minutes…

Bernard

Fantastic! You even had the music stop on time too! Are you back to work this week ( new pic/video ) or do we have to have Thanksgiving leftovers here at Bros. Jones?

Dennis Jones

…ha! …ok, Bernard… something new…

Bernard

C’Mon Man ( Keyshawn )…you know if you give us an inch we will want a yard! Now, you’ve got us all the way up to painting videos…Jones seminars cannot be too far off.

ChicagoBear

Indiana did not have a professional football team for a lot of years and folks around here adopted the Chicago teams as their own, so when fall roles around and the NFL kicks into gear each year, loyalties are equally split between the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts… (which made that Superbowl the Colts won a few years ago against the Bears pretty interesting in this part of the country).

You can see the video for this here.

The Comments

Bernard

Wow! Dennis, you are the J.C. Leyendecker of cartoon Illustration! Your use of color just never stops amazing me…with each new illustration I lean over, tilt my head to the right ( my dog does the same thing when I talk to him ) and just float away on the HITH ( text-short for: How In The Heaven ) does he do that thought bubbles. Superb stuff man!

Dennis Jones

…Bernard, I’ve noticed lately that my wife looks at me blankly and tilts her head in a quizzical way when I’m talking, too… just like you and your dog… what’s going on here?

Bernard

..ha, ha….it means that you my friend have entered: ThE TwILiGHT ZoNE! Buhaaahahahahaha

Bigonjee Boi

quit making videos and spell rolls right. (as opposed to roles as in role model which you are not because of your poor grammar). have a nice day pops.

Dennis Jones

…HEY… I don’t need to know how to spell correctly… I’ve got SPELL-CHECK and it said the way I spelled role was JUST fine and if its fine with SPELL-CHECK, it’s fine with me…

Bernard

Gee, that’s no way for Bigonjee Boi to increase the value of his Christmas gift this year. Just for that I would give him a soc-mo.

Dennis Jones

…all that kid ever wanted to be when he was growing up was a hockey player… who knew he lernt spelling along the way somewhere?? …that comment of his must have been his school teacher mom side popping out…

Don Jones

All this role talk makes me hungry for Lamberts… speaking of role ons, I tried some of that new can deodorant, but every time I raise my arms, the can falls out.

Bernard

Lol! Don, try some Dippity-Doo instead. It’s a little known secret but it works, in fact, you can go three maybe four days without a shower. You can even mix it with some Tang instant breakfast powder for a little perfumagation if you like scented deodorant. Caution: After 4-5 hours it get’s super reflective to headlights so you would want to wear a thick coat if you jog at night.

I’m Seeing Spots

December 8, 2008

BaseballFilm

This baseball picture is part of a spot illustration I did for the assignment I’ve been working on for the past month or so. I did a quick count this morning and I’m approach 200 spot illustrations for the project, and I’ve still got a whole bunch left to do.

You can see the YouTube Video here.

The Comments

Bernard

whoa, that’s like 4-5 per day, everyday? Yikes! that’s allot of cintiq & Photoshoppin’ Must be a huge book?

Don Jones

I like the big views and close-ups edits… back and forth… Another winner!

Doug Jones

I’m still lost in the 60s…. who did that music?

Dennis Jones

…Doug, that’s an old Phil Keaggy song from I think the 80’s somewhere…

Doug Jones

so I’m still two decades behind…

Doug Jones

For me, this one was the most fun to watch. I liked seeing it build from the ground up… literally…

Dennis Jones

…don’t forget your fabulous “Socmo In Living Color” opening… with just a bit more spit and polish, we’ll be ready to launch our Brother Jones Music Video channel…

Bernard

I hear ya Doug…me too. Dennis, are freehanding the color blocks in place w/Cintiq or making masks as you go along?

Dennis Jones

…Bernard, I am trying to keep my process just as simple as possible… 3 layers… the middle layer is the line work in multiply mode… the other two layers are in normal mode… I block color in UNDERNEATH the line work and then put the finishing touches on the TOP layer… no masks…

Bernard

Yes! Simple is very good…because I probably don’t have to tell you that I am simple! Seriously, thanks for all you do to help us computer noobies.

Jason Bourne

Simple is better…I prefer this way of life also. This is great.

This is another one of my little “screen capture” movies I recorded a few weeks back. It was an effort to show my entire Photoshop workspace, but combined with the huge loss of compression that takes place when you upload to YouTube, it turned into a grainy, hard to see mess. Perhaps when my kids are home over Christmas, my film producer son can show me the proper settings to use on one of these things. I’m pretty sure right now I have the video program I use set on idiot mode…

You can see the YouTube video here.

The Comments

Bernard

Aghhh….kidz home for Christmas! I never seen it coming ( so soon ) but with my 50th in the rear view now and with our 14 month old Grandson walkin’ and squakin’ I’m so ready to see all the kids home for Christmas too! sniff, sob. PTL -gotta go watch a Jones Toon-Tube now.

Doug Jones

enjoyed the studio tour.. did something blow up while you were filming this?

Dennis Jones

…yes, my credibility as a serious filmmaker…

Don Jones

I think the grain is a nice effect… the intro had a sci-fi, thriller feel to it.

Doug Jones

Yeah… let’s get more suspense, drama, and special effects into these videos. We need to win an Oscar here on BrotherJones.

Dennis Jones

…I was really hoping to win something with this film at Sundance this year… but with the unfortunate motorcycle wreck at the start of this movie, I don’t think it’s going to happen now…

Doug Jones

I’ll put in a good word for you with Bobby Redford. I’m sure he can get you a spot this year. Remember… dress warm!

Texnick

Great vid and work. Action is something that seems to be of a demand, the Governator might be of some interest in this.

Don Jones

I would rather put this in the running for a Pulitzer.

Dennis Jones

…is that some sorta tractor pull trophy?

Doug Jones

I think it is some kind of chicken… but I’m not sure…

Don Jones

Whatever it is… I hear it’s a PRIZE!

Dennis Jones

…I could really go for a little cashew pulitzer from China Grove right about now…

Bernard

Not sure about the Cashews from China Grove but listening to the Doobies on the treadmill is worth an easy extra .5 on the speed setting!

Don Jones

Ironically, I was just talking about “Skunk” Baxter with someone yesterday. Vintage Takin’ It To The Streets guitarist and Nuclear Defense consultant.

Dennis Jones

…it’s still hard for me to believe the lead guitarist for Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers has been partially responsible for our nuclear defense for the past several years…

Bernard

yeah…just make sure you don’t lose that number or you’ll be reeling in those years.

Texnick

I would like to learn how to play the guitar, maybe I’ll just stick with the rubber-band fer now.

Bernard

er, uh, excuse Texnick, sir, but this is a “Learn How TO Paint Like The Jones Bros.” (and then still not be able to) site. The: “Learn How To Play The Guitar Like The Jones Bros.” (and then still not be able to) site is currently for sale on eBay.

Texnick

Ah,I had my lines crossed…

TaxCollector

In school I was taught that as an artist, I should work an entire painting up at the same time… but I’m not an artist, I’m an illustrator, and I’m using a computer now and not the old squirrel hair, sticks and mud… so I paint the stuff in the back first and the stuff in the front last. It’s fast and simple. Here’s a small spot illustration I did that shows what I’m talking about.

You can see the YouTube video here.

The “Ripleys” Guy

Dennis, I love to watch those but you should put a warning about the scary video at the end!

Dennis Jones

!!!WARNING!!! SCARY VIDEO ENDING ON THIS!!!

Bernard

Dennis, I agree… only Artists have to work up an entire painting at the same time. Just like only humans have to put on their underwear first! I’m a welder so I don’t even paint any underwear at all. Oh no…are we staying on topic here? Quick, Don and Doug get in here and change the topic before we seem like we’re all artists!!!!!!!

Doug Jones

You are amassing a bunch of these videos. I am considering doing one too… we’ll see… Hey, your approach makes the most sense to me. I have seen some painters (excellent oil painter types) that start in one spot and put on a finished stroke. Then they add the next correct stroke next to it and on and on till it is finished. I can’t imagine painting like that. (any hat tricks today?)

Dennis Jones

…no hat tricks today …how are you doing on your work? …are you going to be able to kick back and enjoy Christmas?

Doug Jones

got my major job done on Monday. I’m now sorting things out so I can hit the road on Friday.

Don Jones

That was a shocking ending. I’ve never seen credits roll like that.

Dennis Jones

…well, Don, in some circles I’m known as a pretty edgy film maker… well… crop circles…

Doug Jones

i’m still STUNNED myself…

Don Jones

The circles I run in are under my eyes.

Weasel Chop

February 5, 2009

WeaselChop

When the Brothers Jones were growing up, we watched a children’s program on tv that featured Shari Lewis. She was a ventriloquist and her most famous sock puppet was named Lamb Chop. I have decided to pick up where she left off with my brand new sock creature, Weasel Chop.

Weasel Chop from Dennis Jones on Vimeo.

The Comments

Doug Jones

Amazing! I never saw your lips move!

Dennis Jones

…I’ve been practicing…

Don Jones

Who writes your material? Even though it’s a rehashed joke, I just can’t stop laughing.

Dennis Jones

…try pressing the little directional arrows in the lower right hand corner next to the Vimeo logo… I did and was shocked with what I got…

Doug Jones

I ended up on an island with an H bomb…

Dennis Jones

…I’ve been listening to a bunch of LOST podcasts lately… I’m thinking about doing my very own VIDEO Lost podcast… it will just be me and Weasel Chop formulating crackpot theories on where we think the show is headed…

Doug Jones

I have mixed feelings about LOST podcasts. Not knowing, and wondering what the heck is going on is half the fun. The podcasts just fill my noggin with lots of speculations and other folks opinions of what’s gonna happen… and THEY don’t know. BUT… WeaselChop… now THAT guy knows all… bring on the podcast!

Dennis Jones

…coming soon …the Uncle Denny & Weasel Chop LOST podcasts… we don’t know what happened to them… lost I guess…

Bernard Molek

They say that art is always evolving…gotta say that’s certainly true over here at Jones Bros. since I was last here. You forgot the heavy eyeliner that Cheri used to wear.

Dennis Jones

…Bernard, it’s hard to get that eyeliner on when you’ve got a puppet in one hand and a camera in the other… I tried, but I ended up looking like Alice Cooper…
