Valentines Day

Candy

…my cut of the Valentines Day loot…

Karen bought several bags of candy, (and various other doo-dads) to send to our two boys for Valentines Day. She planned to mail it all when she returned from California, but then realized she was not getting home until the day before Valentines Day. In a panic, she called from California and asked if I would please split the candy up and get everything in the mail so it would make it to our two boys in time.

As I sat down at the kitchen table to split the candy I noticed there was no parental supervision in the room, so I made an executive decision to split the candy three ways instead of two. This would create a secret stash of candy all for me.

So far, this has been working out really good. I feel pretty confident that since Karen rarely checks in at Brother Jones, I can continue to keep the secret stash a secret until the secret stash has all been consumed. Happy Valentines Day To Me!

Doug Jones

Cool beans, dude! I’ll help you keep that secret… but it’s gonna cost you 5 chocolates!

Keegan Jones

Good call. I’d do the same thing. One for them, three for me, one for them, three for me.

Don Jones

Your secret will eventually catch up with you when your lovely wife pinches that extra inch on your gut. Good luck.

Nick Jones Everybody

I wish you would have kept ALL the strawberry kisses, and sent a few more cherry kit kats down the Oklahoma way… But hey what’s done is done…

Don Jones

Sorry to say I bought Janson the SAME Snoopy boat with Reeses cups that I bought him last year. He was very gracious and forgiving for his Dad’s oversight.

Dennis Jones

…sheesh Don, what were you thinkin? You know there’s no way to split a Snoopy Boat up and keep part of it for yourself…

Don Jones

He got the Snoopy in the boat… I got all the candy.

Dennis Jones

…nice work…

Doug Jones

I was always confused by the theology on this point. Does the Easter bunny also leave baskets of candy on Valentines Day? Is this scriptural?

Dennis Jones

…you dont need theology to abuse candy… it’s useful any time of the year… a long time ago Peter wanted to go trick or treating and it was kinda up to me to take him and I didn’t want to do it so I said, “Pete, I’ll buy you 3 bags of any kind of candy you want and we can go to the hockey game on Halloween night and eat it there”… he went for it… yet another successful use of candy to weasel out of something I didn’t want to do…

Doug Jones

That heart warming story of a son and dad gorking out on candy together brought a tear to my eye…

Dennis Jones

…I am considering writing a parenting book… I believe I could fill in a few of the gaps Dr. Dobson left out of his books… like teaching the kids how to defend themselves with hockey sticks… that sort of thing…

Don Jones

You can fill in the gaps from Dr. Phil as well. IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU!! I believe it is obvious to all eight of our visitors that chocolate is a favorite jones to us brothers. I find myself walking real slow past that big BRACH’s display at the grocery store. This new site is feeling just like home now.

Doug Jones

Dennis…name that book “Chicken Soup for the Hockey Dad’s Soul”… and maybe we can add a snazzy diploma for anyone who actually reads through it…

Don Jones

I say float this by Zondervan and see if they wanna pick it up .. if not, get your rep on it. This could be big. I have that feeling. Then again it could just be my gall bladder acting up once more.

Dennis Jones

I’m thinking maybe an all picture parenting book… no type… I’ve seen this sort of thing work before…

Doug Jones

be sure you have very graphic spanking pages… that should be fun

Dennis Jones

…good thinkin’, Doug… of course, that would give the book a PG rating… (parental guidance)… but since the book is for parents I dont know how that would work… must give this idea more thought…

Doug Jones

if you don’t think too good… don’t think too much…. my motto..

Don Jones

I’d like to see a few pages on “How-to maintain parental sanity with multiple teens in the home.” Maybe a picture of a Mom and Dad hiding behind a locked closet door eating the kid’s valentine day candy.

Dennis Jones

…in full hockey gear and ready for action…

…looking through her new See With Me Bible…

This weekend was the grand opening of Bible Land at Mount Paran Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and the good folks there were kind enough to fly me down to be a part of it. I’ve been working with Little Mountain Productions to create wall art for church interiors, and this is our first collaboration together. The artwork used was all from my See With Me Bible that is published by Zondervan.

I just noticed on the See With Me link (above) there is a telephone interview I forgot that I’d done. It seems to be one of my typical conversations. I am asked a question, I babble on aimlessly for a while, don’t answer the question, and eventually forget what the question was and what I’m talking about.

The Comments

Doug Jones

what were you saying? … I dozed off there for a moment…

Keegan Jones

Whoa, that is totally cool. Is that screen printed on the wall or something?

Shrub

Very nice! I will have to bring this up during the next church building project meeting!

Dennis Jones

…zzzsSNOrRt …whoa, I kinda dozed off myself… Keegan, those are huge vinyl wall coverings…

Doug Jones

this is like Dennis on the Jumbo-Tron! cool! It looks like it is in a classroom and a stage area… anything else? What are those screen like things on the right in the bottom picture?

Dennis Jones

…a three level puppet stage…

Don Jones

The rock seats even look to be in the Dennis Jones style. This is way cool…

Don Jones

I see you’re styling with the latest in the Johnny Cash line!

Doug Jones

For some reason… that picture of Dennis reminds me of Mr. Miyagi… the old master in the Karate Kid. ‘cept he had more hair…

Dennis Jones

…good observation, Don… they did model the rocks from the ones in the See With Me… the three tiered one on stage is a pulpit…

Dennis Jones

…wax on …WAX OFF…

Don Jones

Thanks for that reminder there Dennis… don’t forget your bikini wax for the upcoming summer swimmin’ season.

Dan Lietha

Alright Dennis, I gotta ask because inquiring Jones fans want to know. Are these the largest repoductions of your art so far or have there been larger ones made in the past? The Trivial Pursuit Jones Edition has to be accurate!

Dennis Jones

…this is at least the most ENLARGED of anything I’ve ever done… these pictures are only around 10 by 16 inches in size…

Roballoo

Wow! any issues with enlarging your work so much?

Dennis Jones

…I was really impressed with how these turned out… I sent the original artwork to the Little Mountain people and they re-scanned it all at about half a gazillion dots per inch so it all turned out really sharp…

Don Jones

Surprisingly, those large format printers do some amazing interpolation of pixels… The big 8×12 foot banner (& billboard) artwork we do around these parts are sent in at 50 to 85 dpi at actual size. Go figure.

Dennis Jones

…you lost me at interpolation… but I did understand the surprisingly part…

Doug Jones

I think everything works with algorithms…

that could be a tick, Don…

So is this the beginnings of the bro. Jones Amusement Park? This could get interesting.

These are the walls in the great room. I particularly liked how the doors in the room were a continuation of the artwork.

Doug Jones

I was looking at the last photo and the thought occurred to me… it would be great if they had some scratch and sniff things to go along with those animals. It would enhance the whole ark experience…

Don Jones

That is simply great looking. Did they create that Bible Land logo? Was that illustration also a direct pick-up from the See With Me?

Dennis Jones

…yep …the logo illustration was an art pull from the Bible…

Felipe B. Vancin, 22 anos, brasileiro, designer

Hi, D.Jones, I wait that it reads. I am Brazilian, I am in the last year of the college of design, I am developing my project of course conclusion, that is Biblical personages for children. It would like to say that I admire you very, the little time I bought its illustrated bible here in Brazil, would very like one day to be able to know you, therefore I am your fan. I adore all its drawings, I am Christian and I never knew Biblical drawings with as much sensitivity as you he makes. I very learned in its site and blog, but if it will be able to send me any type of material that can help me in my project, ours, would be the maximum! I can say that I am a better ilustrador due to you. A great one I always hug, that God blesses you very! it forgives the English, sincerely, Felipe B. Vancin.

Don Jones

Hello Felipe! Isn’t Brazil south of Arkansas?

Dennis Jones

Hello Felipe… thanks for your kind comments… I hope to see your artwork someday!

Down, But Not Out

December 2, 2009

You never know what tomorrow holds. My SeeWithMe Wordless Bible got yanked off the market because the “wordless” concept didn’t really take hold like we thought it would… but then… just when you thought it was down for the count, it lifted itself up off the canvas, got back into the corner, the trainer threw some cold water into it’s face, added some text, and it jumped right back into the ring as the new and improved ReadWithMeForToddlers Bible… but the story was not over…

The ReadWithMeForToddlers is currently subdividing into several individual little story books. There are four paperbacks in the brand new “I Can Read” series with three more in the pipeline. They should hit the stores sometime in February. If you dig around on the Zondervan Website you can see some hi-rez images of the covers.

…Adrian …ADRIAAAAAAN!!!

Don Jones

Woo woo! I purchased a new and improved Sans-a-Word Bible this past Saturday… the Bible sales lady said that the Dennis Jones books were her favorite. What is 1 + 4 ? Here goes nothing

Jeff

Cut me Mick!!!

Jeff

The answer is 3 Don.. Edumaction at its fineeest..

Nik

That’s cool how things work out.

Keegan Jones

Hey, I just bought the toddlers version off Amazon for a baby gift!

Dennis Jones

…Doug’s Nashville Titans… Den’s Indinaplis Coats… SCOREBOARD!

…it’s always a good idea to do your trash talkin’ AFTER the game has been played….

Nik

Colts and the Saints, it’s going to be interesting to watch

Jeff

I slept through the Longhorns until the last 2 minutes “WHAT A GAME” not…… BAMA is gonna kill the horns if they play that lame again.

Doug Jones

It went just the way I thought it would go. It’s a little much to really think you can knock off Peyton after loosing a game 59-0.

Doug Jones

no more bananas for SocMo!

Doug Jones

SO… how much snow did you get up there?

Dennis Jones

…I went to the grocery store last night around 7:30 for a standard milk and bread run, when I walked out it was snowing big time and I drove home cutting tracks into the snow covered road… this morning it’s all gone, just lots of wind… in other words, typical Indiana weather…

Doug Jones

I thot TV made it look like blizzard up there… we have HIGH winds and 2.5 inches of rain yesterday

Dennis Jones

…ok, well, now snow is flying HORIZONTALLY past my window… ya gotta love this global warming… the planet really is about to burn up… wish AlGore would hurry up and fix the weather… if he can create the internets all by himself, surely he can fix a little thing like the weather…

Don Jones

It’s sunny and mid 70s here in Missouri. Ho ho ho! Looking forward to listening to a little Perry Como and sipping egg nog poolside this afternoon …

Dennis Jones

…when Karen was a little girl, their family got a puppy and the kids decided to name it after Perry Como …except they thought his name was Terry Como… so they had a dog named after Perry Como named Terry…

Don Jones

That’s good. Speaking of dogs, Lola was hunkered down, deep inside the old doghouse this morning.

Dennis Jones

…Moo always had to ride the winters out in her doghouse… one year I packed about four feet of solid snow around her doghouse… I figured if it works for eskimos it would work for a dog…

Jeff

I think Terry had the solo in the all dogs Jingle Bells

Daniel In The Lion’s Den

January 8, 2010

DanielRoughDanielCover

I finished up two more covers for the book series I’m currently working on. The editors want three cover ideas to pick and chose ideas from for each book. They chose elements from the first and second rough for this particular cover. I took some shots of this work in progress and made a mini-movie which you can see in my comment section below.

You can see a larger version of this here on Vimeo.

The Comments

Don Jones

This has special impact for me… I’m right in the thick of Beth Moore’s DANIEL Bible study… me and my girlfriends.

Doug Jones

I’d like the number for the lion’s hairdresser, please…

Dennis Jones

Q: Why don’t lions eat comedians?
A: They taste funny.

Jeff

I have the other version of Daniel, the one where the angel is holding the lions mouth shut, I love that one.
